There are probably many people on your gift list who already have everything they need. (Can they really use another shirt, book, toaster, or box of chocolates?)
Here's an idea for a unique birthday, wedding, or Christmas present that they'll cherish: a gift in their name to a charity. You can pick an organization with interests similar to their own (for example, a non-profit organization that helps children, cares for animals, or maintains the environment). Or give a gift in their name to a charity close to your own heart.
Many organizations will send gift cards to your friend or loved one announcing your thoughtfulness. PawPaw's Pals, for example, is a non-profit children's charity that helps stop child trafficking through the "Not For Sale" project (You can even arrange your gift on their website, www.pawpawspals.org ). Other organizations such as World Vision often have gift catalogues at holiday time ( www.worldvision.org ). Just Give lets you give a gift certificate that your family member can "redeem" for a donation to a wide array of charities (the organization charges a fee) ( www.justgive.org ). World Relief accepts gifts in others' names, and will send a letter announcing your gift ( www.wr.org ).
Giving a gift to charity in someone's name means your friend or loved one will receive a memorable gift - and you'll have the joy of blessing them and a worthwhile charity at the same time. (And don't forget that your gift is tax deductible!)
Looking for a unique gift? You can give a gift in someone's name to these charitable organizations (they'll send a card or letter announcing your gift):
