Dr. Joseph W. Shannon


Joseph W. Shannon is a psychologist who works in a private practice setting in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Shannon specializes in treating depression and anxiety disorders, chemical dependency, character pathology, and relationship problems. In addition to his private practice work, Dr. Shannon has consulting privileges at five Columbus-area hospitals.

Dr. Shannon also maintains a consulting business and has contracts with a number of public and private health and human service agencies, providing training in areas ranging from the diagnosis and treatment of adult psychopathology to stress management and wellness planning for employees

He completed his Masters and Doctorate degrees at The Ohio State University in Counseling Psychology. He has authored or co-authored a number of articles appearing in professional journals and is currently listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. Dr. Shannon recently served on the teaching faculty of the American Healthcare Institute in Silver Spring, Maryland, and has appeared on numerous television programs, including the CBS "Morning" program, PBS "Viewpoint," and the locally produced "Your Health" program.

Since joining the teaching faculty of CORTEXT/Mind Matters Seminars in 1997, Dr. Shannon has developed and presented training programs for medical and mental health professionals throughout North America. He is recognized for innovative teaching methods, including the use of film excerpts to illuminate distinct adult disorders.
