Calvary Baptist Church in Manhattan was the site for a seminar titled “Restoring Sexual Purity to Our Lives, Our Marriages, and Our Church”. This seminar was led by Dr. Harry Schaumburg, who along with his wife, Rosemary, are the founders and directors of Stone Gate Resources. The purpose of the seminar was to point people away from sexual sin to restore intimacy with God and others.

Pornography is a 97 billion dollar industry. The Internet and cell phones have contributed to its growth. Worldwide $3000 is spent every second on pornography. There are 420 million pages of pornography available. There are 68 million daily searches to pornography on the Internet. Mexico is the largest producer of pornography and the Unites States is the largest consumer. Two million children worldwide are brought into the sex industry each year. 90% of 8 – 16 year olds have seen pornography while doing their homework. Worldwide, the average age of a child that is exposed to pornography is 11 years old. A very popular activity among some young people today is taking pictures with their cell phones of their friends engaging in sexual activity and then posting the pictures online. 80% of missionary applicants at a particular mission organization indicate they struggle with pornography. One church-plant agency has not interviewed any applicant who hasn't struggled with pornography. One international seminary now assumes that all student applicants struggle with pornography and the seminary tries to determine “at what level”. 1 out of 3 companies in the United States has fired someone for looking at pornography while at work.

So, is sexual impurity a disease? Sin? Bad habit? Is desire wrong? What part do greed and covetousness play in sexual immorality? What does Colossians 3 tell us to “put off” and “put on”? What’s the course to take if you want to go from sexual immorality to true sexual morality?
